ADOLESCENT BRAIN CHANGE

An adolescent is not a big kid nor a small adult, and due to a unique and massive period brain of development they respond to situations, pressures, and communication in an entirely different manner than they would earlier or later in life. Stress and anxiety are more easily triggered and consequently, the brain's negativity bias goes on overdrive. Verbal and facial cues are easily misinterpreted. Experiences and interactions are perceived through an emotional rather than rational lens. Breakdowns are more common, and we are often left wondering what happened to our competent, rational, driven athlete of even a year before.
